The Interim Worship Leader is a 20-hour-per-week position responsible for leading and supporting the worship and tech ministries of Johnston Heights Church. The initial contract runs through the end of June 2027, with the possibility of extension following review and mutual availability. This role reports directly to the Lead Pastor.
Key Responsibilities:
Worship Leadership and Service Planning
- Leads Christ-centered worship at both Sunday services in collaboration with volunteers
- Works closely with the Lead Pastor to plan worship elements that align with sermon themes, scripture passages, and the overall flow of Sunday services
- Helps create worship environments that are meaningful, engaging, and appropriate for a multi-generational church
- Collaborates with the Communications and Creative Coordinator regarding service orders
- Ensures worship elements are planned and prepared in advance
Worship and Tech Team Oversight
- Provides leadership, encouragement, and oversight to the worship and tech teams
- Builds healthy, supportive, and ministry-focused relationships with worship and tech volunteers
- Identifies, develops, and empowers volunteers in their gifting
- Supports team members in understanding their roles, responsibilities, and expectations
- Encourages a culture of humility, preparation, excellence, and service
Rehearsals and Team Preparation
- Plans and leads weekly worship rehearsals that prepare the team musically, technically, and spiritually
- Ensures volunteers are equipped and prepared for Sunday services
- Communicates clearly with team members regarding songs, arrangements, service flow, and expectations
- Promotes punctuality, preparedness, and teamwork
Scheduling and Administration
- Schedules worship and tech team members using Planning Center
- Maintains clear and timely communication with volunteers regarding scheduling and service details
- Ensures service plans, songs, and volunteer assignments are updated in Planning Center
- Coordinates worship and tech scheduling to support both Sunday services
- Maintains organized systems for worship ministry planning and communication
Technical and Production Support
- Sets up, or ensures the set-up of, ProPresenter and click tracks
- Ensures the livestream is set up and running for the appropriate Sunday service
- Supports the operation of sound, livestream, and lighting systems as needed
- Works with tech team to ensure Sunday services are supported effectively
- Helps troubleshoot worship and tech-related issues when they arise

- Proficient with Planning Center and ProPresenter, including click tracks
- Willing and able to learn and operate sound, livestream, and lighting systems
- Organized, punctual, and prepared
- Able to manage details related to scheduling, rehearsals, and Sunday service preparation
- Uses technology effectively to support worship ministry planning and execution
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicates clearly and respectfully with volunteers, staff, and ministry leaders
- Works collaboratively with the Lead Pastor and Communications and Creative Coordinator
- Provides timely information related to service planning, scheduling, and worship preparation
- Maintains a positive and constructive approach when working with team members
- Helps foster unity between worship, tech, pastoral, and communications teams
